Super easy roof replacement tips

It’s a rule of thumb that a residential roof can last as much as 15 years before it needs to be replaced. Of course there are number of things which will determine whether a roof replacement is actually called for. One of these is the material that the roof is made from. Many people chose to use shingles, which are available in a wide range of sizes, colors and prices. Other available options include clay tiles, wood and steel panels. The cost of these differs greatly and, as one can well imagine, so too does the durability. Some of the newer, synthetic materials tend to have a longer life span and can even be treated so that they are resistant to fire.

The roofing material isn’t the only thing which can affect how long it lasts. Other factors include:

• The slope of the roof, which will determine the rate of moisture run-off
• The surrounding environment including if there are any large trees around the house
• The amount of rainfall and sunshine the roof is exposed to
• The frequency of extreme weather conditions such as hail

Perhaps the biggest problem which can lead to the need for roof replacement is moisture. This can cause certain materials to start rotting and it can also bring about the onset of black mould, the scourge of every homeowner. Not only is it unsightly but it has also been linked to a number of respiratory ailments, especially in children. It is better to replace the roof before things get to this point, but if it has already happened then don’t even think about trying to complete the roof replacement without calling in an expert.

When looking for a roof replacement contractor, it’s best to get it right on the first try. After all, one will be looking to get another 15 years or more before having to go through the stress again. Don’t be afraid of asking questions. How else can one get the relevant information? Important things to find out are:

• Are they familiar with a wide cross section of roofing materials? One can be more specific if the roofing material has already been chosen.
• Can they provide any references that one can contact?
• Do they have liability insurance in the event that something should go wrong?
• Can they make a copy of their contractor’s license available?
• Will they be able to provide a detailed quote together with an estimated timeframe for completion?
